Mass: Pittsburgh

The Pittsburgh mass balance site was relatively thick multiyear ice. Though surrounded by ponds, Pittsburgh remained a bare, white ice site throughout the summer. It was the mass balance site for the SHEBA column and was a couple of hundred meters from the 20-m met tower.  Pittsburgh was close to the Ridge mass balance site and was the starting point of the Mainline snow survey line. There were five thickness gauges ( 53, 59, 69, 71, and 250) and a thermistor string at Pittsburgh.
