HOME If conditions were spatially uniform, the description provided by the SHEBA column would be sufficient. However, the atmosphere, ice, and ocean all exhibit considerable horizontal variability. Aerial, surface, and underwater surveys were conducted to assess this variability and extend the column measurements to larger scales.
