CalWater Special Session Being Planned for AGU Fall meeting

July 14, 2011

A special session is being planned for the AGU Fall Meeting, which will take place from 5-9 December 2011, in San Francisco, CA.

Session Title:  A04: Aerosol, Cloud Properties, Atmospheric Rivers, and Precipitation in California: CalWater

Organizers:  Kim Prather (Univ. of California San Diego), Dan Cayan (Scripps Institution of Oceanography/USGS), Guido Franco (California Energy Commission), Marty Ralph (NOAA/ESRL/Physical Sciences Laboratory), Joe O'Hagan (California Energy Commission)

Call for Abstracts: CalWater is a multi-year field experiment. The most recent field campaign took place in the winter of 2011 involving measurements of aerosol physical and chemical properties at ground level and aloft, cloud physics measurements, snow sampling and analysis for dark particles and dust, and complex regional meteorological observations. CalWater is designed to gather information on atmospheric rivers which provide up to 50 percent of the water supply in this region and the role that aerosols have on orographic precipitation and snow albedo. We encourage presentations from interdisciplinary research reporting results from CalWater and similar experiments around the world.

Abstracts Due to AGU by:  4 August 2011
