Haonan Chen has been an Affiliate Research Scientist at the NOAA Physical Sciences Laboratory (PSL) and an Assistant Professor at Colorado State University (CSU) since August 2020. Before joining the CSU faculty, he worked at CIRA and the NOAA/PSL during 2012 - 2020, first as a Research Student, then a National Research Council Research Associate and a Radar, Satellite, and Precipitation Research Scientist. His research interests span a broad range of remote sensing and multidisciplinary data science, including radar and satellite observations of natural disasters, polarimetric weather radar systems and networking, clouds and precipitation processes, big data analytics, and deep learning.

Dr. Chen is the first author or a co-author on 70 peer-reviewed journal articles, served as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Atmospheric and Oceanic Technology, URSI Radio Science Bulletin, and IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing.
