Abstract
I recently served as a panelist at the CLIVAR Tropical Pacific Observing Needs (TPON) workshop. As I have traditionally worked primarily with model data, and have not had the opportunity to participate in a field campaign, I was definitely not the most qualified panelist participating in this workshop. Given my lack of observational experience, I learned a lot from this experience, and I would like to share some of my initial impressions of our past, present, and future observational capabilities. I am interested in learning more from the experts at NOAA PSL, and hope that you will consider this presentation a “conversation starter”.
I will focus on current and emerging technologies for observing the marine atmospheric boundary layer, as well as the past, present, and near-term future of tropical radar observations.
