Reconstructed Monthly North Atlantic Oscillation (RNAO)
Reconstructed monthly NAO index back to December 1658
Description
Description
Reconstructed monthly NAO index back to December 1658. The NAO index is defined as the standardized (1901-1980) difference between the SLP average of four gridpoints on a 5x5 longitude-latitude grid over the Azores and over Iceland. The reconstructions are based on a Principal Component Regression Analysis.
Note, the monthly values from December 1658 to November 1900 are Luterbacher et. al. (1999,2002) reconstructions, the data from December 1900 to July 2001 are derived from Trenberth and Paolino (1980, updated, data are available through: http://dss.ucar.edu/datasets/ds010.1/data/)
