PSD Flash Seminar
A Selection of Climate/Weather Datasets and Web Tools Available from PSD's Web and Data Group

ABSTRACT

PSD provides a large number of gridded climate and weather datasets for researcher use at PSD. I will discuss our web interface to these datasets, including how to search for specific datasets and the information available to help read the data. We also provide many online web tools for displaying and analyzing datasets. A subset of these will be shown. The first is a set of web tools that allow users to compare reanalyses with each other and with observational data (WRIT or Web-based Reanalyses Intercomparison Tools). These include a mapping tool, a time-series tool, and an air parcel trajectory tool. The trajectory tool allows users to calculate forward and backward trajectories from historical reanalyses. We are also constructing a web tool that will plot vertical profiles and time-height plots of reanalyses. Additionally, a tool is in development that will produce movies of from historical gridded data. Finally, I will show an example of a webpage that plots real time data from the Arctic.
